Every spring the rainy season fades in Metro Vancouver, city dwellers pack their sweaters away and are rewarded with one of the world’s most cheerful sites: 40,000 cherry trees bursting with pink and white blooms.
In the cherry blossom season in Metro Vancouver, rainy days are usually more likely than sunny days. But in this special 2020, sunshine lasts 10+ days. Cherry blossoms, the sky is crystal clear. Quiet & beautiful. There is a saying that the flowers are similar every year, but people are different from year to year.
The Lower Mainland has thousands of cherry trees all over the region, and never is this more obvious than in the spring when parts of the city turn beautiful shades of pink. Japan donated hundreds of cherry trees to the City of Vancouver in the 1930s, and to this day we benefit from that generous gift.
These locations are my favorite places to see cherry blossoms (Blooming:03/28-04/12).
1. Graveley Street, Vancouver
Location: Along one city block of Graveley St. from Windermere St. to Lillooet St.
2. Georgia Street, Burnaby
Location: Along eight consecutive city blocks of Georgia Street from Willingdon Ave. to Boundary Rd.
3. West 22nd Avenue, Vancouver
Location: Along eight consecutive city blocks of West 22nd Avenue from Arbutus Street to Carnarvon Street.
4. Randolph Ave., Burnaby
Location: Along Randolph Ave.
5. Queen Elizabeth Park
Location: Clusters of pink can be found around the park, including the park entrance at West 33rd Avenue.
